Therapy Dog Prep
This is one of the most rewarding activities you can do
with your furry family member. Therapy work involves you
& your canine visiting hospitals & schools, so that you can reach out to others &
put smiles on faces!
In this class you will teach your dog the manners,
skills & know-how it takes to become a therapy dog.
We will cover the following:
-
CGC
preparation & testing (your dog will receive
his/her CGC in this class)
-
train handling skills
-
training around other people & dogs in a
public setting (take field trips)
- work the "leave it" command around
many objects & distractions
- teach what is
necessary when visiting a pet therapy approved facility
>
teach dogs how to be approached & petted when in a facility
>
teach dogs how to accept hugging, tugging, loud people, etc.
>
teach dogs how to accept medical equipment & people approaching with
disabilities
- work dog/handler as a bonded team
when in stressful situations
Upon completion of this
class, you will be eligible to take the therapy dog
certification test given through
Paws
Partners, Inc.
After passing your certification test you & your
certified therapy dog will be able to visit places with
Paws Partners, Inc.
